Against the Spread Pick
The Cornell Big Red and Yale Bulldogs have mirror image records in the Ivy League heading into Friday’s contest (Cornell is 2-6; Yale is 6-2). Yale is 15-3 since beginning the season 3-3, a hot stretch that includes an 86-71 home victory over Cornell on Feb. 1. Azar Swain delivered 25 points in that contest, touching off a streak of four consecutive games in which he led the Bulldogs in scoring–all of which saw him score more than 20 points. The Big Red are coming off consecutive losses to Penn, Harvard, and Dartmouth. They gave up at least 75 points in all three of those setbacks. Only two team members (Jimmy Boeheim and Terrance McBride) are averaging in double-figures this season. YALE should be able to cover the spread.
Over Under Pick
The good news for Cornell is that Boeheim is pouring in 17.3 points per game. He was one of four Big Red players to reach double-figures against Yale, going for 17 points in the first meeting. Cornell’s defense has struggled of late, which should be music to the ears of Swain and company. Paul Atkinson is averaging 17.5 ppg for the Bulldogs. Look for this one to go OVER the total.
