Against The Spread Pick
The second Big East game of the day will see the DePaul Blue Demons take on the Xavier Musketeers. DePaul had a dreadful season, there is no doubt about that. They were 3-15 in conference play, which of course means they enter this tournament as the 10th seed. On the other side are the Musketeers, who went 8-10 in the Big East yet have some very impressive wins. This is a game they cannot afford to lose because it would essentially knock them off the bubble. According to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, this Xavier team is one of the “First Four Out”. The Musketeers have already had plenty of success against DePaul this season, beating them twice by 11 and eight points. With this being March, this is the time where even the worst teams can all of a sudden put on a show. Xavier is 11-19-1 ATS this season, and I do not trust them to put away DePaul for a third straight time. That being said, it would be a lean to the Blue Demons, but a very small one to say the least.
Over Under Pick
I like the total more in this spot because with it being the first game of a tournament, nerves could take over early on. I expect some sloppiness at the start of the game which would indeed help an under. Both teams are only averaging in the 60’s over their past five games as well, which further shows that their offenses are struggling. Both teams are dealing with a fair amount of injuries as well, so even if those guys play, they might not come out at 100 percent. The under is also 8-1 in the last nine meetings between these teams, so look for defense to play a big role here. That being said, I will back the under to cash in this spot.
