Josh Taylor thinks he’ll prove he’s the greatest fighter on the planet by defeating Regis Prograis at London next month.
Taylor faces fellow super-lightweight world winner Prograis in the closing of the World Boxing Super Series final in The O2 on October 26, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
‘The Tartan Tornado’ will put his IBF belt at stake, while southpaw Prograis risks his WBA’Super’ and WBC Diamond belts in an attempt to land the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
“I am looking ahead. First time here fighting here in London, headlining at The O2, therefore I excited for this. I can’t wait,” said Taylor (15-0, KOs 12).
“I am completely confident in the fight. I think I’m bigger than him, stronger than him, quicker than him and that I punch just as tough so I believe I can defeat him in each department.
“When he comes to walk down, I believe I’ll walk him right into a shooter and get him out from there. Which I’m fully confident I can win this battle either way it goes, if not, I could outbox him to get the whole 12 rounds.
“I believe Regis and myself would be # 1 No 2 in the division and we’re the 2 guys to beat and we are likely to establish it on October 26.
“This really is my moment to shine and that I can’t see him beating me at all. I’m super sure.”
New Orleans-born Prograis, who’s awakened 24 wins because turning pro in 2012, is determined to grab the opportunity to write his name in the record books.
“Most fighters do not get this chance in a lifetime and we’re getting this opportunity at this time. You’ve got four things on the line; the Ali Trophy, my title, his name, IBF, WBA along with The Ring Magazine name , all this is online.
“I had a late start but a good deal of fighters have been battling 20, 30 years and never get this chance, therefore for me it’s like a chance of a lifetime. This is history, this is my heritage and I’m ecstatic to do this in London in The O2, I can not wait.
“No 1 and No 2, you don’t receive this, two undefeated fighters into their prime which are champions. This is a show and I am eager to participate in it.
“He is taller than me, he’s more than me, however, for me personally, none of the stuff things. I truly cannot see ways to beat on me. Not to be cocky or arrogant but I can’t see how he can beat me.”
