Against the Spread Pick
The Portland Trail Blazers will be playing the second game of a back-to-back situation when they host the Utah Jazz on Saturday. There remains uncertainty surrounding Carmelo Anthony, who did not play in Friday’s game against the Lakers while grieving the loss of Kobe Bryant. The Jazz have lost three in a row, but none are bad losses (vs. Houston, at San Antonio, and at Denver). A setback against Portland would be far worse–and it probably won’t happen. Utah is 11-3 ATS in its last 14 against opponents with losing records and 12-4 ATS in its last 16 playing on one day of rest. The Trail Blazers are 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 overall, 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 at home, 4-10 ATS in their last 14 against opponents with winning records, and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six playing on no days of rest. The JAZZ are the play.
Over Under Pick
With or without Anthony, Portland should at least be able to score plenty of points. Damian Lillard is the hottest player in the NBA right now, with at least 34 points in six straight contests–including one game with 61 and another with 50. The over is 7-3 in the Jazz’s last 10 overall, 6-1 in their last seven on the road, and 9-3 in their last 12 against opponents with losing records. It is also 5-1 in the Trail Blazers’ last six overall and 34-16-1 in their last 51 at home. Additionally, the over is 16-6 in Utah’s last 22 trips to Portland. Go with OVER.
