Against the Spread Pick
This is a showdown between two teams in the middle of the pack of the Pac-12, with the Arizona State Sun Devils coming in at 4-4 and the UCLA Bruins registering at 5-4. As the records suggest, this should be more competitive than what the seven-point spread indicates. UCLA is 4-1 in its past five games and its only road loss in regulation since Dec. 14 has come at 12th-ranked Oregon. Chris Smith (12.7 ppg) has exceeded his scoring average in six of the past nine outings and he torched 20th-ranked Colorado for 30 during a win on Jan. 30. The Sun Devils are 5-6 since starting the season 8-2. Remy Martin is averaging 19.3 ppg but is not getting a whole lot of help on the offensive end. The Bruins are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. Arizona State is 2-5 ATS in its last seven following an ATS win. Take UCLA.
Over Under Pick
In four of UCLA’s past six contests, the losing team has scored fewer than 60 points–including a 50-40 victory over Cal last month. Smith is the only player on the squad averaging in double-figures. ASU is tuning the ball over 13.3 times per game. The under is 5-2 in the Bruins’ last seven on the road. It is also 9-4 in the Sun Devils’ last 13 at home, 6-2 in their last eight at home against opponents with losing road records, and 9-3 in their last 12 following a win. Look for this one to stay UNDER the total.
