Puck Line Pick
The Red Wings have tried and tried to build some confidence and consistency, but it just hasn’t worked, and that was proven by their 5-1 blowout loss against Buffalo. The Islanders didn’t have any answers for cross-town rival the Rangers, in their previous game as they were blown out at Madison Square Garden. Returning to Nassau Coliseum should give New York a boost, along with a 6-3-1 record in their last 10 head-to-head meetings against Detroit. With goalie options getting thin with Jonathan Bernier injured, the Red Wings will be quite vulnerable around the net, as Jimmy Howard has dealt with injuries this season as well. Tyler Bertuzzi remains to be the highlight player for Detroit, as they have won three of their last six games. The Islanders won the lone previous meeting this season and should be able to get the job done in this match-up. Take the New York puck line.
Over Under Pick
Goal scoring seems to be scarce for both Detroit and New York in this match-up. Neither team has been able to score more than three goals on a consistent basis. Not to mention both teams surrendered at least five goals in their last games respectively. The last five games for the Red Wings have finished with five-goal totals or more. The Islanders have had five or more goal totals in each of their last three games. Even though they both struggle to produce, their defenses aren’t afraid to give up goals, which is why taking the over 5.5 total is the smart play.
