Money Line Pick
Toronto remains in the hunt in the Atlantic, but they can ill-afford any more ugly showing against teams well down in the standings. To make matters worse the Maple Leafs will be without goalie Frederik Andersen for their clash at Madison Square Garden with the New York Rangers. New York looks to be the spoiler for every top contending team, as they have put up a strong fight every night they take to the ice. They couldn’t slow down the Stars, and face yet another tough back-to-back with Toronto visiting. The recent series between the Rangers and Maple Leafs have been tightly contested, so much so that they have split their last 10 head-to-heads. The teams have already met twice this season, and New York got the win in Toronto, while the Maple Leafs were the far superior team when they met the last time at Madison Square Garden in a 6-3 thrashing by Toronto. Hard to slow a team down that has won seven of its last eight on the road. Which makes taking the Maple Leafs on the money line the easy choice.
Over Under Pick
Toronto and New York have been goal-scoring machines, and even with the Rangers struggles, goal-scoring hasn’t dwindled much. The Maple Leafs have rocketed into the top three of the Atlantic Divison behind a top-five goal-scoring unit. The Maple Leafs and Rangers have met twice already this season, and both games were really high scoring match-ups, so much so that they both resulted in nine-goal totals. The odds of that happening again are a little long, but with both teams averaging at least three goals in a majority of their respective last six games, backing an over seven-goal total with confidence is a must here.
