The previous time that the Alabama football team took the field, it was blasted 44-16 from Clemson at the tournament game back on Jan. 7 outside San Francisco. Think Coach Nick Saban will be using that for motivation because of his 2019 team?
Uh, yeah. I’m sure Saban is also using the fact that Clemson is ranked as inspiration. I feel sorry for poor Duke. It’s the fifth all time meeting between the schools and first since the Tide won 62-13 in Durham in 2010. Bama leads 3-1.
The Tide also have won 17 straight and have never lost a season opener under Saban. It’s the second-longest such streak in SEC history. The school list is 30 straight season-opening wins from 1904-1934 (Tide didn’t field a team in 1918).
Just Ohio State retains a longer active Week 1 series with 19 wins. A total of 11 of those wins for Alabama have come in neutral sites. They thumped on a Louisville team that was poor last year. The 100 wins of alabama will be the most one of the current members of the SEC.
Saban brings back 12 starters from last year team on both sides of the globe. Alabama has three valid Heisman contenders in quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (next in last season’s voting), running Najee Harris and Biletnikoff Award-winning receiver Jerry Jeudy.
It’s quite likely that Tua and Jeudy go 1-2 at the 2020 NFL Draft. Mel Kiper recently put out his very first Big Board for another draft and had Jeudy ranked No. 1 overall.
