Money Line Pick
The Metropolitan Divison is really heating up and any win either the Capitals or Islanders can get are a must-need. Washington looks to have rebounded to the level they have been performing for most of the season, and have won back-to-back games against fellow Metro teams. The Islanders looked to be at a high point after their 8-2 blowout of Detroit before running into a brick wall in rival the Rangers, and New York has lost three of its last four games. This match-up is a big Metro Division match-up so Alex Ovechkin will be in the line-up, which is good news for Washington. He will have to serve a one-game suspension for missing All-Star Weekend, so it looks to be when the Capitals take to the ice against Montreal after the bye week. He has been on fire lately and might be the key to getting an all-important win at Nassau Coliseum. The first two meetings have been split, but with the level Ovechkin has been playing, not taking Washington in this game isn’t smart. Take the Capitals with high confidence on the money line.
Over Under Pick
The last time the Capitals and Islanders faced-off on New York’s ice, it was far from what both teams have been capable of scoring the puck. That night, which was early in the season, felt like a night where the puck just didn’t want to go in. Washington ended up closing New York out 2-1 in that game. They met again on New Year’s Eve, and that clash was very different, as the Islanders left Capital One Arena with a 4-3 victory. The Capitals have historically put the puck in the net around three times per game in games against the Islanders, but neither team has put up enough goals to favorably back the over. Yet on any given night, both teams can light up the siren. Taking the over 5.5 total is the right move.
