Puck Line Pick
Let me start by saying that San Jose are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Rangers on Saturday night, so they will be at a rest disadvantage for this Sunday evening game. Also, note that the Sharks are well outside the playoff picture, sitting 12 points behind Calgary. The Islanders on the other hand, got a much needed win over Detroit in their last game by a score of 4-1. This win snapped a four-game losing streak as well. New York is in the playoff picture at the moment, but only by a few points. A couple more losses and then they will be on the outside looking in. Not only do the Islanders have a rest advantage, but they are also one of the best home teams in the NHL. I look for New York to feed off of a tired San Jose squad and the Islanders will find a way to win this game on the puck line.
Over Under Pick
I like the total in this game a lot more because these are two teams that struggle to score. The Sharks average just 2.6 goals, while the Islanders score 2.8. This is especially true as of late where San Jose is scoring 2.2 goals and New York is scoring 1.2 goals. That is over the last five games respectively for both teams. Not to mention that the under is 7-3 in San Jose’s last 10 games as an underdog and 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team from the Eastern Conference. I look for the scoring troubles to remain and will take the under as my play.
