Puck Line Pick

The Capitals are no longer the top team in the East even though they won last time out, 4-2 against the Los Angeles Kings. They are now in 2nd place and trail Boston by one point. Meanwhile, Philadelphia suffered a horrible loss in their last game to the New Jersey Devils. Not only did they lose the game, but they were shutout 5-0. To make things worse, that game was at home too. The Flyers remain tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for the final spot in the Eastern Conference. Where Washington has the edge in this particular match-up is being at home. That is common to say, but the Capitals are 16-7-4 in home games this year, while the Flyers are 11-13-3 on the road. Also, it is worth noting that over the last 29 meetings between these teams the favorite is 21-8. This will be the third meeting this year. Each team has won once, but both games were played in Philadelphia. I look for the Capitals to continue their great play and will take them on the puck line to find value.

Over Under Pick

The total is what I like a little more in this contest, as both offenses are known to be high-scoring. Even after getting shutout by New Jersey, Philadelphia still averages 3.1 goals per game. Then you take into account how the Flyers’ defense has been performing and it is possible that Washington could score four or five goals by themselves. The Capitals have scored three or more in seven straight games too, so you know their offense is going to show up. One trend shows that the over is 22-9 in Washington’s last 31 home games and for that reason, I lean to the over to cash.
