Against the Spread Pick
The Knicks are off a win which is nice but more interesting is the fact that they have covered in five straight. Are they getting more competitive or finding teams a little less focused? It is probably a bit of both. Nevertheless, the Hornets are far from elite so a second win seems possible. RJ Barrett is still out but the Knicks’ bevy of productive power forwards should have some success against a light Hornets frontcourt. The Hornets have lost eight in a row and most of them, like their most recent loss to Milwaukee, have not been very close contests. They are the lowest-scoring team in the league and their defense is nowhere near good enough to sustain that. The backcourt will definitely outscore the Knicks but unless they really go off it will not be at a high enough rate. Charlotte will get some respect for being the home team here but I am not sure that is earned. Take New York.
Over Under Pick
Scoring is the easiest thing to factor into a total handicap so even though the Hornets are last they are exactly even when it comes to totals this season. There might be some value in knowing that they score more and give up more points at home but still are going under the majority of the time. It looks like a situational spot the oddsmakers are struggling with so we should try and take advantage. Take the under.
