Money Line Pick
The Islanders saw their short two-game win streak come to an end as they lost to the New York Rangers in their last game. This was a game that the Islanders came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie it, but allowed the Rangers to score in 28 seconds once the overtime started. The Blues on the other side, have won five games in a row now, beating Columbus 6-5 in their previous game. St. Louis continues to hold the Central Division lead and needs this win to remain at the top. Considering the Blues are 21-6-5 at home this season, they are likely going to get the job done. St. Louis did lose to this Islanders team once this season, however that was all the way back in October, so their team is clearly much better now. The Islanders are still a very good team, so I do not think they will lose this game by much. That said, I lean St. Louis on the money line, even at a steep price.
Over Under Pick
The Islanders defense was finally cracked the other night, giving up four goals to their cross-town rivals. The Blues did not exactly play a clean game either, giving up five goals to the Blue Jackets. Still both teams are allowing less than 2.75 goals per game overall, and less than 2.2 goals per game over each of their last five. The under has still cashed in six of the last seven games for New York and the under is 18-10 in Islanders’ road games this season. I look for defense to bounce back for both sides and will take the under here with medium confidence.
