Against The Spread Pick

The second game of the Mountain West conference tournament will see the 10th seeded San Jose Spartans take on the 7th seeded New Mexico Lobos. The Spartans were easily one of the worst teams in the country this season, winning just 3 conference games and not even reaching double-digits in wins. New Mexico on the other hand, also had a down season, but actually have a winning record overall. Their 7-11 conference record is the reason they will be playing on day one instead of getting a bye to day two. These teams split their regular season match-ups, each winning on their home floor. Now at a neutral site, the advantage goes to New Mexico because they are flat out the better team. Keep in mind that the Spartans have not won a game since January and are 3-6 ATS during their 9 game losing streak. This is not a game that will make my card, but it would be a lean to the Lobos.

Over Under Pick

The Spartans might be the worst defensive team in the country and for that reason the over is the only way I could look. New Mexico is also allowing 75.7 points per game this season, so I look for defense to be an afterthought. Not that the offenses for either side are good at all, but when there is no defense, teams are going to score. The over is 7-2-1 in San Jose State’s last 10 games, so that would be my lean.
