Against the Spread Pick

One of the first match-ups of the day will tip off at noon Eastern. This game will be part of the SEC-Big 12 challenge and will see a struggling Missouri team take on a top-15 West Virginia side. The Tigers come into this game having lost three games in a row. Their most recent loss was actually a close game with Texas A&M, but the two before that were beat-downs. Also note that the Tigers were a 10-point favorite over the Aggies, yet they could not even win. The Mountaineers bounced back from their blowout loss to Kansas State last week by beating Texas 97-59 in a mid-week game. Now, this is a game the Mountaineers will not want to lose because it would be considered a bad loss. Unless they collapse down the stretch, West Virginia is going to be a tournament team, but they will be looking to improve their seeding. I do have some hesitation laying double-digits with this West Virginia squad because they can go from scoring 97 to 63 points in an instant. There is no way I would pick the Tigers to win this game, but with the inconsistencies shown by the Mountaineers, I lean to Missouri to pick up the cover.

Over Under Pick

The total in this game is 134 and I would look to the under. We know how good the West Virginia defense can be, allowing just 60.6 points per game. Missouri actually has one of the better defenses as well, as they give up 61.6. Some trends to note show that the under is 20-7 in Missouri’s last 27 non-conference games. Also, the under is 8-3 in West Virginia’s last 11 overall. This is more of a stay away total as we do not know which offense is going to show up for the Mountaineers. If you have to play it, it would be a small lean to the under.
