Despite being supposed to become among the worst teams from the NFL in 2019, the Washington Redskins have some major decisions to make when it comes to the quarterback position. With Week 2 of the NFL preseason upon usoddsmakers have released props on which man will earn the starting quarterback position when the normal season arrives.
BetOnline is dealing Case Keenum as the +100 favorite to be the starting quarterback in Week 1, using Colt McCoy (+200) and Dwayne Haskins (+250) because the underdogs. The’Skins regular-season OVER/UNDER win total was set at 6.5 in the shop.
Washington head coach Jay Gruden has a big decision on his hands. Gruden, who is Recorded As The Fave are the first coach fired this season, has not made any announcements about which person will find the starting job, but seeing Keenum as the likeliest participant to do this makes sense.
As stated by the Washington Post, Keenum has been now”probably the Redskins’ starting quarterback for now.” Keenum was traded to the Redskins from Denver in the offseason after an underwhelming campaign with the Broncos in which he threw for 18 touchdowns and 3,890 yards combined with 15 interceptions. Keenum won’t be considered the most attractive option under center for Redskins fans, but he looks like the one.
McCoy was given the reins of the beginning job this past year following Alex Smith endured a barbarous season-ending leg injury, however the Texas product suffered a season-ending accident of his own just a couple weeks later Smith’s.
The 32-year-old has been using the Redskins because 2014 and understands the offense better than another signal-callers about the roster, so don’t be amazed that it Gruden opts to proceed with McCoy out of the gate.
It is probably going to be a long season in D.C., and that means Haskins probably won’t be rushed into action. The Redskins seemed to find a sneak by selecting Haskins with the No. 15 pick from the 2019 NFL Draft, however, the former Ohio State standout fought in his first preseason action. Haskins completed 8 of 14 passes for 117 yards in his debut against Cleveland but was intercepted twice.
Haskins is known for his strong hands and poise under pressure, and he is already viewed as the quarterback of the future for your club. But together with Keenum and McCoy from the fold, it makes more sense for Haskins to watch from the sidelines for the first couple weeks of this season. The Redskins could easily be from emptiness.
With tough games against the Eagles, Cowboys, Bears and Patriots in four out of the first five weeks, Haskins is better off on the seat. If Washington is from playoff contention soon afterwards, giving Haskins a shot later on could be the best plan of action.
