Promoter Eddie Hearn states Gennadiy Golovkin is not”waiting or wondering” on Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez as there are loads of exciting options for 2020.
The Kazakh star has signed an co-promotional deal with Hearn before the fight at Madison Square Garden in New York on October 5 against Sergey Derevyanchenko to the IBF title.
‘Canelo’ is now holding talks within a November conflict the WBO winner, with Sergey Kovalev, as Hearn has summarized a number of struggles however, Alvarez is not the goal for Golovkin.
“You’ve got to create your own moves and I believe that is what ourselves teaming up using Golovkin was doing,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “Not wondering or waiting on Canelo.
“Canelo is going to do his thing. Canelo wants to combat with Kovalev and he’s made that clear. I anticipate that fight to take place in November. Golovkin and Derevyanchenko about October 5 fight, and then you keep going.
“You have got Demetrius Andrade. I’d love Demetrius Andrade to battle Canelo or even Golovkin. We’ve got Billy Joe Saunders in 168 [lbs]. Has the capacity to come back to 160 [lbs ]. Danny Jacobs is battling 168, but likely could make 160. You have got Callum Smith as well, if those guys would like to go up.
“I think the key in 2020 is get each of those fights made. I’d really like to watch Golovkin and Canelo, but Canelo will decide who he struggles, and at the moment, Golovkin isn’t on this list for us and DAZN and for combat fans, but Kovalev is a great fight. It is a test that is great.
“Let’s see if they can both win in October and November.”
Callum Smith has been connected using a rotational super-middleweight battle against WBO title holder Billy Joe Saunders and Hearn intends to discuss aims for its WBA’super’ winner.
“I am due to meet next Tuesday to get a chat, and his staff,” said Hearn.
“We want to get him out in November, November 23rd in Liverpool. Run him out until 2020, only straight.
“There’s a date along with conversations happening with Liverpool football club for Anfield in May. That might be enormous. That’s bucket listing stuff for Callum Smith. He’s made money, he has won titles, but that is the kind of event he wishes to get his teeth into and I will guarantee a Anfield fight in June or May next year.
“But he wants to get out, defend his title. John Ryder is your mandatory for this belt, so that is a good British fight as well, if this may be produced, and then move on into all of the mega fights of 2020.”
