Money Line Pick
The President’s Day card kicks off with a somewhat lackluster game between the Florida Panthers and the San Jose Sharks. As of Sunday night, both of these teams find themselves on the outside looking in for a potential playoff spot. The Panthers are in better shape right now, trailing the Flyers by five points. The Sharks on the other hand trail Arizona by 10 points and have quite a lot of work to do. San Jose is playing the better hockey currently, going 4-1 over their last five. Compared to the 1-4 record from the Panthers over the same stretch. Despite their recent struggles, the Panthers are 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these teams played in San Jose. Florida has won both their meetings this season with San Jose and I look for the road team to get back on track against a team they have had success against.
Over Under Pick
I actually like the total more in this game because it is a game involving the Sharks. San Jose is not a team that is going to run up the score, hence why they are only averaging 2.6 goals per game. Florida on the other hand has had much more success and is scoring 3.4 per contest. It is true that both defenses can struggle, each allowing about three goals per game, but the inefficiencies for San Jose on the offensive end are too much to overcome. The under is 4-1 in the last five head to head meetings and I look for this one to be all Florida, which means that I like the under to cash.
