Against the Spread Pick

What will Zion Williams do for an encore when the New Orleans Pelicans entertain the Denver Nuggets on Friday? Zion’s long-awaited NBA debut–and also home debut–resulted in a 121-117 loss to San Antonio on Wednesday, but it was no fault of last summer’s No. 1 overall pick. He delivered 22 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in just 18 minutes of work. Unsurprisingly, Zion did not get much help from what has for the most part been a disappointing team in 2019-20. The Nuggets, on the other hand, come in with a 30-14 record (13.5 games better than New Orleans in the standings). Nikola Jokic, arguably the best big man in the game, produced a triple-double agains the Rockets on Wednesday. With the spread inflated due to the Zion craze, this is a nice opportunity to take DENVER.

Over Under Pick

Zion also committed five turnovers in his limited action, so it was not all gravy for the rookie on Wednesday. Denver is dealing with multiple injury issues and it is already not an offensive-minded team in the first place. This matchup features an intriguing contrast in styles and the Nuggets are more likely to successfully play it on their terms than the Pelicans are to implement their up-tempo pace. Go with the UNDER.
