Money Line Pick
This is a tough assignment for Nashville SC in its first-ever MLS game against a deep and talented Atlanta united squad. The schedule makers have clearly decided to push this as the newest rivalry in the Southeast, but the new kids on the block have been handed no favors at all here. While it is difficult to bet on – or against – an expansion team as you really have no idea what they will bring to the table, I am confident that Atlanta United will have far too much offensive firepower for Nashville in this game. One reason for this is the attacking ability of Josef Martinez, a player who starred in the MLS last season and who will be looking to pick up from the 27 goals in 29 league appearances he put up last year. Martinez – and the rest of the Atlanta attack – will do the business here.
Over Under Pick
This Atlanta team knows how to score goals and I fancy them to score at least two – and perhaps as many as three or four – as they look to jump on top of their newest rival with a statement win. They averaged 1.71 goals per game last season in a strike rate that saw them as the second highest-scoring team in the entire Eastern Conference last season and they should have more than enough upfront to do some damage against the new Nashville team here. Expect them to hit the back of the net on multiple occasions as they will use their pressing play offensively to force the Nashville team into making defense mistakes. While Nashville might get one on the break at some point, it will be Atlanta United that carries this score to the over here.
