The MLB is set up with a total of fifteen matches for Saturday night. One of those matchups up on the plank will be between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves. These two NL East rivals are in positions to create playoff pushes this year, which should help lead night. This game will begin at about 7:10 PM Eastern time on August 24.
The Braves have put a listing of 78-52 up to the point in the season, which includes been sitting in the first place of their NL East. Atlanta has won six matches in a row to help them expand their lead. The Braves will try and set their seventh victory.
New York is currently sitting in third position of the NL East with a list of 67-61 so far this season. Last night, the Mets took a tough loss, but they had won five in a row and fourteen of the playoff matches. New York is behind in the wild card race, but if they keep up this strong end, they could sneak in the postseason.
These two teams have a lot at stake within this series as they further and try their push to the playoffs. While the Mets are attempting to make up ground in the wild card race atlanta is more comfortable with their own positioning. This show started out last night that was strong and that I anticipate another matchup on Saturday.
The Braves and the Mets have fulfilled in four series before this one. The very first show in Atlanta was divided 2-2 between the two teams. The series was hosted by the Braves and they took it 2-1. The third string shifted to New York, and Atlanta discovered a way to pull off a triumph in that series too. The fourth series remained in New York and once more the Braves took the series 2-1.
The matchup of last night was a really good one. The Braves acquired the first run in the first with an RBI single from Freddie Freeman. Jacob deGrom reacted in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer. The game required extra innings, but an RBI gave the 2-1 win to Atlanta.
These two teams have played this year, but the Braves hold a 9-5 record over the season against New York. The match of last night required 14 innings to finish up, which might cause some fatigue at the game of Saturday night. I think that the Mets can come out powerful though to bounce back with a win to get their home fans.
The Braves have seen some strong hitting during this year. Atlanta has been directed by Ronald Acuna Jr. who has put up 155 strikes, 36 home runs and 88 RBI’s on the year. Freddie Freeman has had a wonderful season as well, earning 151 hits, 34 homers, 104 RBI’s and an OPS of .970. Although Josh Donaldson has 118 strikes, 29 homers and 73 RBI’s ozzie Albies has 149 hits, 18 home runs and 68 RBI’s.
Amed Rosario has 12 home runs, 140 hits and 54 RBI’s this season for New York. Pete Alonso has already been directing this group with 123 strikes, 40 home runs, 97 RBI’s and an OPS of all .967. Michael Conforto has had a good year, setting up 27 homers, 110 strikes and 76 RBI’s. Wilson Ramos, J.D. Davis, along with Todd Frazier all have over 80 strikes and 10 home runs on the year also.
Atlanta has been struck with the injury bug in the season since they’re missing Austin Riley, Dansby Swanson, Brian McCann, Ender Inciarte along with Nick Markakis. The Mets are without Dominic Smith, Robinson Cano, and Jeff McNeil. Despite all the injuries however, both teams have solid lineups that can cope with damage throughout.
Max Fried will get the start on the mound for the Braves on Saturday. Fried continues to be a good season, putting a list of 14-4 up via 26 games and 24 starts. He’s got an ERA of 3.84 and a WHIP of both all 1.401 in these matches. Fried’s last start came from the Los Angeles Dodgers, in which he allowed three runs and eight hits through five innings.
Zack Wheeler has had a good season also for New York and he will get the start on Saturday. Wheeler includes a record through 24 starts this year. He’s got an ERA of 4.40 and a WHIP of both 1.266 through those start. Wheeler allowed four hits and four runs, three earned in his last start against the Kansas City Royals.
As he has made a win in five fried has been hot in his performances. The Braves will require another strong performance whenever they want to pull off another win against the Mets. Wheeler will appear to prevent his third loss of the year against Atlanta with a much needed win for New York and has had a solid season.
The Braves have better that the better team in their season series against New York this year, but I enjoy the Mets opportunity to bounce back with a win on Saturday. Max Fried was playing great as of late, but I feel the Mets can give him some trouble early and he is due for a beginning. New York will look to take advantage of those holes at the starting lineup to make a huge win to tie this up series in your home of Atlanta.
BetOnline has the Mets. I feel that this is a great line as it gives a slight advantage to this hometown Mets, but keeps it close to even. As a favorite in this game, I think there is a great deal of value on New York. The Mets will start looking to help fuel them past the fatigue to make a win.
