Against The Spread Pick
UCLA has had quite the run of games recently. The Bruins are coming off of a week where they beat Utah straight up as a four-point underdog and then they topped that by beating Colorado on the road as a 10 point dog. This means the Bruins have had six outright upsets in league play. This is notable because it also means that the dangerous and in form Bruins are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games. The Sun Devils are on a seven-game winning streak while the Bruins are riding a streak of five victories in a row. The Sun Devils have had their share of big upset wins on the year too and they are powered by junior guard Remy Martin and his 19.1 ppg. The Bruins are a more balanced team – only Chris Smith is in double-digits for ppg – but they have scorers all over the court. Arizona State crushed UCLA 84-66 the first teams the two sides played and while this will be a much closer game I like the Sun Devils to cover and win straight up.
Over Under Pick
These are a couple of middling teams when it comes to over/under on the season. The Sun Devils are 13-14-0 while the Bruins are 12-13-3 (with three being a pretty improbable number given how many points are scored in a college basketball game). Arizona State scores 73.7 ppg – they are heavily reliant on the scoring of Martin from his guard spot – and they allow 69.4 ppg. UCLA is 126th in the country in points allowed at 67.5 ppg and they are 212th in the nation in scoring 69.9 ppg. This is a huge game here with the fate of the Pac-12 regular-season title at stake and two red hot teams playing. That pressure might be a little too much for these offenses and this could easily develop into a cagey, low scoring game where every bucket matters. I like the under here as both teams will be defending hard on every basket as there is so much at stake.
