Puck Line Pick

This is easily one of the least exciting games on the President’s Day card, as the Anaheim Ducks take on the Calgary Flames. Anaheim is actually coming off an impressive win where they beat Vancouver 5-1 on Saturday night. The downside is they have to play a back to back, so they could be dealing with fatigue here. Also note that the Ducks are 11 points behind the final playoff team in the West, so overall their season has been a disaster. Calgary on the other hand just lost 8-4 to the Blackhawks, so they desperately need a bounce back game. The Flames are currently a playoff team, but more losses to below average teams could change that in a hurry. Another important note is that these teams met this past Thursday in Anaheim. The Flames won that game 6-0, which leads me to believe they will have similar success at home. Combine that with the fact that the Ducks stink away from home and it has me on the Flames to win this game.

Over Under Pick

While the last meeting went over the total, we still have two of the weakest offenses in the NHL. The Ducks only average 2.5 goals per game, while Calgary is scoring 2.8. However, both defenses allow about three goals per game, so it varies which side will show up every night. I will say that over the last five games Calgary has found their offense and they are scoring an average of five goals. The bad news is their defense has allowed 3.4 over the same stretch. Based on recent trends, I have to lean to the over because the defensive troubles are far greater than the lack of scoring.
